Founder & Foundation
Back in 2015, driven by a passion for craft and creativity, Founder and CEO Architect Ankita Sakpal executed her very first interior design project in Mumbai. Today, Ankita is joined by her mother who is an interior designer by profession .
Team
A & S Design studio is a group of designers from interior designers to architects. Our main hubs are in Mumbai and Pune, India.
We’re a multidisciplinary team of architects, interior designers, strategists, planners and carpenters.
We invite you to meet our team, led by a group of people respected for their personal character and professional expertise. Our in house studio of experienced designers and production experts work together with you. Our production team continuously explore new production processes and methods to express creativity and design in a wide range of materials.
Architect Ankita Sakpal
The principal architect Ankita Sakpal behind A&S Design Studio, is known for her distinctly modern commercial and residential work. Ankita earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch) from the L.S.Raheja School of Architecture, (Mumbai University). Ankita founded a design firm in 2015, which became the foundation for her architectural & interior practice. She is the sole principal of A & S Design Studio.
Ankita Sakpal is appreciated for her keen eye for color, detail, scale and conceptual design, providing clients with spaces that are functional, fresh, and uniquely their own. Ankita’s passion for design started early with her love for the arts and travel. Above all, Cowan values the relationships she builds with her clients and the influence her work will have on their daily lives.
Trendy, over-decorated concepts take a back seat to calm, meaningful spaces that allow architecture and carefully chosen furnishings and materials to take clear focus. are livable, enduring and authentic in every sense.
In detail
After completing my higher Secondary school, I discover my passion for design, for Architecture. Ever since my college days I had an interest towards breaking down my conceptual ideas into reality, the tangible forms and elements.
What inspired me?
"A building that will stand for centuries."
In this context, I’m not interested in numbers, only in quality.
The French writer Marguerite Yourcenar inspires me, She rewrote and rewrote the same book until it was perfect. I ask myself in my work, when have I captured the essence? If I want to design a building that will stand the test of time, it’s quality needs to be at 100%."
I then discovered my interest in Interior Designing and Landscape designing as well. I wanted to explore the challenges associated with my field.
I feel Visualizing Architecture truly runs with the concept. I have an ability to bring an emotional, theoretical or idealistic element into the reality. This is an innate skill in some, but mine is cultivated one.
During my academic years, I came across various aspects of architecture wherein I understood architecture is a blend of form and function.
I had spent so much of my time in studio working on individual projects as well as team projects.
After earning a Bachelor of Architecture degree in Architecture at L.S. Raheja School of Architeture, Mumbai I worked with many architects for few years. I worked for 3 years with CAPL Architects for a wellknown builder Mr. Avinash Bhosle (ABIL Group). Then I went to Pune to work for Mr. D.Y.Patil as a Senior Architect and practically worked for D.Y.Patil Auditorium Building.
Landing in job with many good Architects seems almost paramount to a success.
After I’ve completed few large-scale projects for the span of 4-5 years…
Why did I start my own firm?
I’ve realized that a real world site presence is actually an important part of my job. If I want to be a role model for young Architects, then I need to step up and become visible and have a practical knowledge.
I also don’t want my work to be ascribed to someone else. This means I need to work on getting seen, but I find that tricky. I really just want to work on my projects, give them my full attention and ensure that we achieve quality.
Now for me it’s a constant struggle to achieve my goals. So I decided to open my own firm "A & S Design Studio.
I take the skill and professionalism very seriously, at all levels.
As an architect I create spaces, but before I get there I have to examine what really needs to happen from a multitude of perspectives. I only start once I fully understand the needs of the client and users. There’s a big difference between what people think they want and what they actually need.
In addition while working i travel to cities where amazing architecture and design is displayed.
Every city has its own distinctive architectural look and feel, and there will likely be at least a handful of buildings that show you something novel. And this allows me to break out of my routine, and exposes to new environments.
